Kevin Smock is an award-winning industrial designer who is turning heads with his visionary handcrafted custom knives. Based on his SK23 custom folder, the Spyderco Smock translates his innovative style into a premium-quality production folder.

The hollow-ground blade of this knife is precision machined from CPM® S30V® stainless steel and includes both a Trademark Round Hole™ and an elegantly understated flipper opener. The flipper action is supported by a pair of special ball-bearing pivot washers and a dedicated secondary detent mechanism separate from the knife's lock. It is paired with a skeletonized handle featuring full stainless steel liners, textured carbon fiber/G-10 laminate scales, lightweight, open-backed construction, and a reversible, tip-up pocket clip for ambidextrous carry.

The Smock’s most unique feature, however, is the button release on its high-strength Compression Lock mechanism, which allows the knife to be safely and easily closed without placing your fingers near the blade’s edge. Slim, innovative and distinctly different, the Smock truly reflects Kevin Smock's unique approach to knifemaking.

    Classy edge for any occasion

This beautiful blade is so unique and carry’s well in everything. It’s slim and lightweight. The options for scales is great as well.

    Smock - Almost perfect

Posted by Walt Voss on 15th Jul 2022

This is a great design for a slim, lightweight knife, especially for a left handed user. The button actuated compression lock is a pleasure for a lefty to use compared to the normal compression lock which heavily favors righties. This knife arrived very sharp and after just a few strokes on 3, 1, 0.5 and 0.1 micron Gunny Juice strops, was hair whittling sharp. It’s a beauty of a knife. One thing I would have preferred though, is a little jimping on the flipper tab. The tab is small and smooth and a little something rough on the tab to make it easier to open the blade would be helpful.

I can’t say enough about this knife and REC. first off the Smock is to me perfect in every way. It’s a beautiful knife with perfect function and a ton of fun to use. I literally have no complaints at all with this knife. Second off I’d like to give a shout out to REC on their quick shipping and the free gift they throw in with the purchase. Hilarious and super useful. I’ll be buying many more knives from this company and hope to see a Smock REC exclusive someday!

    Quality

Posted by PJL on 6th May 2020

This knife has a nice look and the feel of it screams quality. Great flipper design, the flipping tab does not stick out from the side of the knife so it is less intrusive in your pocket. The fidget factor is very high, a fun knife to own. Really like the button release for the compression lock. Sharpest knife out of the box I have ever owned. It is a little thick in the handle and not as ergonomic as some classic design Spyderco knives but I am not using it for heavy or long use. Love the styling and quality feel of this knife. Very happy with this purchase and the customer service. Highly recommend the Smock.

    Severe Pitting

Posted by C Haggs on 4th Sep 2019

Picked up knife in store while in the area on a business trip, gave it a look over and was very satisfied. Got it home to Illinois and took it apart to clean and oil, *severe* pitting on the inside of the handle. The sort of quality I'd expect to see at a factory seconds sale or scrapped. Reached out to Sypderco and they told me about their knife sharpening service... I own 13 Spydercos and this is the worst quality I've ever seen. I wouldn't expect this on their Walmart knives, let alone one with this price tag.
