High quality machining, great blade design, with a few major flaws

Posted by Noah on 23rd Jan 2024

This knife is beautifully machined and has an amazing blade design. The half G10 scaling keeps its weight down, which is nice. However, the detent is almost unbelievably tight. You can't have ANY pressure on the lock bar when you open it, or you will just hurt your thumb trying. Unfortunately, this means I can't open it the same way I open literally every other studded folding knife that I own (including other Ti frame locks). I have to contort my long fingers into an awkward position to keep two fingers on the clip, one finger near the pivot and my middle finger hovering in mid air just to flick it open. This means that I could never use this knife for a defensive tool, as it would be difficult to open quickly or under stress. The knife turns into a paper weight when you put even the slightest pressure on the lock bar.

    Chaves 229 liberation, tanto

Great knife. Build strong. Quality , that's for sure. Smooth action. Chaves knives are great. It loves thumbs though, lol. Your favorite hymns will not love a chaves knife. The deployment may take some getting used to, if you're not used to heavier detents. I love it. Definitely gotta have one in the collection.

    Great Knife - Great Bargain

Posted by Lance Miller on 2nd Mar 2024

Excellent knife once I adjusted the detent strength which many knifes don't allow and explained to me by support - feels great in the hand & the weight is perfect. Worth the 5 stars I gave it.
