The Story Behind Demko Knives
This story isn’t just about knives—it’s about the incredible people behind them.

Let’s rewind to January 2021. That’s when I purchased my first Demko knife: an American-made machine-ground AD20 with Digi Camo scales. While Digi Camo isn’t usually my style, this knife struck a chord. I was so impressed that I called John Demko to share my enthusiasm and congratulate him and his brother, Andrew, on their success. During that call, we talked about their latest blade shape, the Shark Foot blade, and I casually joked about how I’d love to own one to pair with my recent purchase from them.
Fast forward to Blade Show 2021. As soon as I arrived, I made a beeline for the Demko booth. After chatting with John for a bit, he reached into his pocket and handed me a knife. It was an AD20 with a hand-ground Shark Foot blade and Digi Camo scales—I was floored.
John had remembered our conversation and went out of his way to make that knife specifically for me. It wasn’t just the knife—it was the thoughtfulness and care behind it that made the moment unforgettable.
That’s what sets Demko Knives apart. Their knives are more than tools; they’re a reflection of the dedication and heart that Andrew, John, and their team put into everything they do

From Garage to Greatness

Demko Knives started in 1988 when a seventh-grade Andrew Demko picked up a chisel and began crafting blades in his family’s garage. Working on a small grinder, what began as a hobby quickly turned into a passion for knife-making and innovation. Andrew’s engineering talent caught the attention of Cold Steel, where he created game-changing locking mechanisms like the Tri-Ad Lock, Scorpion Lock, and the Shark Lock. These designs set new standards for strength and reliability, earning Andrew a reputation as a pioneer in the knife world.
Driven by a desire to build something of his own, Andrew founded Demko Knives and brought his brother John into the fold. John’s expertise in manufacturing brought Andrew’s visionary designs to life, forming the core of the brand we know today. The Demko brothers were joined by longtime friend Mike Wallace, a skilled knife maker whose craftsmanship has elevated the brand further. Together, this trio has built more than a business—they’ve created a legacy.
From their garage beginnings to a globally recognized brand, Demko Knives has earned its place at the forefront of the knife community. Their relentless pursuit of quality and innovation, combined with a personal connection to their customers, sets them apart as true leaders in the industry.
Why the Shark Lock Rules the Sea

We'd be lying if we said the Shark Lock isn't a big deal—it's the big deal, leading to one of Demko's most explosive years in the knife industry. Unlike traditional locking mechanisms, the Shark Lock sits on the spine of the knife, offering lightning-quick deployment and exceptional security. And let's be real—it's just plain fun to use. Whether you're a fidgeter or someone who appreciates innovative engineering, the Shark Lock delivers.
Built for durability, the Shark Lock handles serious use with ease. Plus, it's fully ambidextrous—finally, a premium mechanism that works equally well for both right and left-handed users.
A Lineup to Love
Demko Knives offers a wide range of designs for every kind of knife enthusiast
AD20

The AD20 elevates the Shark-Lock mechanism with a unique movement combining forward, backward, and upward motions. This design creates a robust lock and allows for a larger blade tang, enhancing mechanical strength. The spring-driven lock arm is self-contained, making it resistant to dirt and grime. Known for its strength, the Shark-Lock on the AD20 holds its own against the most robust locking systems on the market.
AD20.5

The AD20.5 by Demko Knives features the Shark-Lock mechanism, positioned on the spine and operated with a ramp-like fin. Available in Clip Point or Sharks Foot styles, it includes G10 handles, ball bearings on the pivot pin, steel liners, and a left-handed pocket clip. This ambidextrous knife is a reliable and versatile choice.
AD15

The AD15 from Demko Knives combines innovation and strength with the patented Scorpion Lock mechanism, providing a secure and ambidextrous locking system. The blade, crafted from high-quality steel, delivers durability and excellent edge retention. Its hybrid handle construction ensures a comfortable and ergonomic grip. Balancing strength and usability, the AD15 is an excellent choice for those who value cutting-edge design and reliable performance. The AD15 will be making a comeback in 2025, so be on the lookout for those
FreeReign

The FreeReign Fixed Blade by Demko Knives is built for rugged outdoor use, featuring a full tang handle with a rubberized grip for superior control in tough conditions. Its scratch-resistant Kydex sheath is durable and functional, with molle mounting capabilities and a design that prevents blade dulling and reduces moisture buildup.
