Built for a variety of utility and close quarter combat situations, the Combat Troodon® is a favorite among Law Enforcement, United States Armed Forces, and First Responder Service Personnel. The substantial feel makes it suitable for hard use, while the benefits of an automatic OTF make it a great choice for everyday carry.

    Combat Troodon

    Posted by JBlade4 on 31st Dec 2020

I have owned almost all of the Microtech OTF models. In addition, I own a few Microtech autos. I recently sold my UTX-85 because I wanted to feel the combat Troodon in hand. After, speaking with some friends and researching the model, I knew this model would be a solid choice. REC has always been great to me as a customer so I checked their inventory first. As soon as I saw the Merlot T/E I knew this was the one. During checkout, I was also reminded of REC's customer service again by them offering Fedex shipping at reduced rates. I received this blade in a few days. The knife itself has a solid construction handle and the charging spring is much tighter than any smaller model of the otf line up. I have strong hands, so the strength of the open/close was exciting. Between the construction, the harder springs, and blade type/thickness its obvious this was made for hard use.The blade is currently made in 204p American Carpenter steel. I ran a strop over the edge to give it a tighter edge. The scale color is a darker maroon color, deeper than other models. I previously owned the Ultratech and it was lighter in color. The darker maroon scale and 2 tone blade really pop together. I would recommend this combat troodon for someone that has strong hands, likes a hard firing otf, and enjoys larger knives. Check your state for laws regarding these and stick with REC, they do a great job!
