The Persistence Lightweight combined the compact size and proven features of this time-tested design with the weight-saving advantages of injection-molded fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) scales. This version takes that evolution a step further, supercharging its performance with American-made CPM S35VN blade steel. The unique chemistry of this steel promotes the formation of niobium carbides along with vanadium and chromium carbides, enhancing its toughness without sacrificing wear resistance. The full-flat-ground blade of this knife is available in all three edge configurations and is paired with a handle featuring bright blue FRN scales, non-slip Bi-Directional Texturing, a sturdy LinerLock mechanism, and a versatile four-position pocket clip.

    Spyderco Persistence CPM S35VN

The basic Persistence is a darn good $50 knife and with an upgraded steel blade it's a great $100 knife. If you're willing to take it apart and rebuild it it can be a fabulous $100 knife. From the factory the pocket clip is WAY too tight and needs to be "unbent" a little and reinstalled on the tip-up end of the knife. Secendly, the lock bar pressed too hard against the blade and made the movement rough, opening the knife difficult and caused the blade to be off-centered. Tweaking (unbending) the lock bar, resurfacing the bronze pivot washers, properly oiling the pivot area, and optimally torquing all the screws results in an awesome little pocket knife. The FRN scales feel great in the hand and are my current favorite factory scales. I had to put a little work into the knife to make it right, but the results are well worth the effort. I love it.

The Persistence is one of my favorite Spyderco's as far as size and ergonomics. I just could not stand the other blade steel these were made in. It has full liners and the blue handle is a plus too. I feel the improvements are worth the significant cost increase. Life is too short for subpar blade steel.
