Spyderco Manix XL

When Spyderco introduced the first sprint run Shaman combining the traditional look of brown canvas Micarta scales and CPM CRU-WEAR blade steel, they were overwhelmed by the response. Later dubbed “CruCarta,” this distinctive pairing of old-school, high-performance materials became an instant classic. To ensure they could meet customer demand when they applied the “CruCarta” treatment to other models, Spyderco decided to make them full-line products, not limited editions. They began with the Para Military 2 and are now proud to add four more USA-made models to this elite family. The Manix features full stainless steel liners, slim brown canvas Micarta scales, and CPM CRU-WEAR tool steel blades that offer an outstanding balance of edge retention and toughness. The scales of all these knives are sanded smooth but left unpolished, so they will naturally patina with age and handling to develop their own unique character.

    Spyderco Manix 2 CruCarta

Posted by Jason R. on 18th Jun 2025

Very nice Spyderco love the leaf shaped Cruwear blade. This does make the profile of the knife a little larger than a Paramilitary 2 even though the specs are quite similar between the two. The Manix 2 does take up a little more pocket space but not really a problem. What I really like is the Manix handle is more stable than my Military 2 CruCarta as it does not flex as much when in use. The thicker full liners of the Manix 2 have a lot to do with that. I also like the ball bearing lock on the Manix a little better than the compression lock on the Military series, with a little practice releasing the ball bearing lock with your strong hand thumb and forefinger makes the blade close very smoothly. The opening of the blade was very smooth as well right out of the box on the Manix, where my Military 2 needed some adjustment to open and close smoothly. Very happy with the purchase and REC customer service as always!
