Lock stick on this knife was horrific and is now only pretty bad. Everything about this knife was perfect besides the lock stick. The micarta looks great and darkens up nicely, the grinds are even and smooth, the fot and finish is right on. Dead nuts centering. But the lock stick is so bad, I have been tempted to shave down the compression lock. Other than that, amazing knife

Dressed to Kill: Spyderco Shaman REC Exclusive Python

I'll be upfront — I wasn't sure about the Wharncliffe profile for a while. Seemed like a gimmick to me, a blade shape you'd pick for the aesthetics rather than because you actually needed it. The Endela Wharncliffe changed my mind pretty quickly. The perfectly straight edge and gracefully curved spine work together to deliver both serious cutting power and scalpel-like precision, and once you start using it for everyday tasks you realize how much wasted motion a conventional drop point involves. Slicing, scoring, opening boxes, breaking down packaging — the Wharncliffe handles all of it with a kind of efficiency that's hard to explain until you've tried it. The tip is usable all the way to the end of the edge, which sounds obvious until you realize most blades lose that near the point. Knifeworks The Endela sits exactly between the Delica 4 and Endura 4 in terms of size, and honestly that's the sweet spot I didn't know I was looking for. Not so small it feels like a toy, not so big it attracts attention. There's enough handle for even larger hands, the four-position clip gives you proper flexibility in carry, and at just over 3 oz it disappears in a pocket completely. Knife CenterBlade HQ VG-10 from Japan is workhorse steel — nothing exotic, nothing that'll have you posting on forums about grain structure — but it's reliable, easy to touch up, and takes a great edge out of the box. The satin finish is clean and understated. FRN handles are FRN handles, they won't win beauty contests, but the bi-directional texturing does its job without being aggressive on the hand. My only real gripe is the backlock. On a knife this otherwise refined, I'd love a Compression Lock — the backlock closes fine but feels a generation behind the rest of the package. Bottom line: A deceptively capable EDC that earns its place in the pocket every single day. If you haven't tried a Wharncliffe blade yet, this is the one to start with.

Dressed to Kill: Spyderco Shaman REC Exclusive Python

Posted by Petr Dvořáček on 6th May 2026

I've carried a fair few Shamans over the years — G-10, Micarta, even the DLC blackout — but when REC dropped this Python version I didn't hesitate for a second. Glad I didn't. Out of the box, the scales stopped me cold. The Python Micarta has this warmth to it, rich browns and reds that shift depending on the light, and the texture is just grippy enough without being aggressive. It doesn't look like a knife that came out of a factory — it looks like something that was made deliberately, with care. After a few weeks of carry it's already started to darken slightly in the high-contact areas, which I love. Micarta that patinas is Micarta done right. The CPM 10V blade is the real treat for a steel nerd. Edge retention is on another level compared to S30V — I've been using mine regularly for over a month and it's still shaving sharp with zero touch-up. You'll need a proper diamond stone when the time finally comes, but that's a trade I'll take every day. Action out of the box was a bit stiff, and I'll be honest — there was some lock stick too. Took it apart, cleaned the pivot, added a drop of oil, and now it's dialed in. Smooth, positive, and that Compression Lock snaps home like it means it. Shouldn't be necessary on a knife at this price point, sure, but it's a five-minute fix and I do it with most of my knives anyway. It's a big knife — no pretending otherwise — but it disappears in the pocket better than you'd expect. I reach for it most mornings without thinking twice. If you're on the fence: don't wait. These don't stick around, and you'll regret missing it more than you'll regret spending the money.

I had a good friend pick me up the 10v shaman at blade show for me and it's friggen awesome. The micarta is some of the best I've experienced. It has wonderful action and was lock stick free. It's one of my favorites in my collection. Now I'm just waiting for you guys to do the DLC version!!!!
