FAQ's

What is Cerakote?

From Cerakote’s official website:

Cerakote is a ceramic based finish that can be applied to metals, plastics, polymers and wood. The unique formulation used for Cerakote ceramic coating enhances a number of physical performance properties including abrasion/wear resistance, corrosion resistance, chemical resistance, impact strength, and hardness. Each of these properties is rigorously tested to guarantee that Cerakote products remain at the forefront of the ceramic coatings market. Cerakote ceramic coatings utilize state-of-the-art technology to out-perform any competitive coating in both laboratory settings and real world applications.

Turn around time

In general, from when your item would arrive here until it ships back out to you is around a week. Give or take depending on our work load.

Cost

Cost is determined on a case by case basis. Please email Mike@riversedgecutlery.com and he will get back to you with a quote within 24 hours.

As an example to Cerakote a blade on a pocket knife, it would be around $60.00, the handle scales would be around $75.00, the whole knife with hardware, around $120.00. Prices will fluctuate depending on the project.

Will having Cerkote applied to my item void my warranty?

In most cases, yes. You can always check with the manufacturer to be certain. This is considered a "Modification" to most manufacturers.

Is the coating guaranteed?

YESREC will handle your project with the utmost care and provide the highest quality finish. We are absolutely confident in our work and we offer the very best in meticulous surface preparation and coatings application.

REC offers a LIFETIME GUARANTEE and a warranty against peeling, chipping, cracking or flaking.

One thing you do need to keep in mind, with prolonged use, the coating will wear and this warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, it will not cover item damage, abuse or misuse. We only warrant coatings applied by REC.

If by chance the coating on your item does peel, crack, chip or flake off, REC's only obligation under this warranty will be to recoat the item for free.

If you have a warranty claim, please call REC for instructions before shipping. Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer.

We do not guarantee other Cerakote applicators work, we only warrant the work REC does.

Will you Cerakote my Spyderco in the "REC" Colorway so it looks like one of our exclusives?

Short answer is no.

Because of our unique relationship with Spyderco and these colors, we have decided it would just not be right to do.  We will do the OD/FDE Combo on anything but a Spyderco, and we will do Spyderco in any other color. Just not the OD/FDE Combo on a Spyderco. We hope you understand our decision.

Are there Jobs REC will not do?

Yes, here is the list of jobs we will not take on:

-Chris Reeve Knives , unfortunately due to our dealer status and relationship with Chris Reeve knives we are unable to modify them per our agreement.

-Any kind of copy righted material

-Spyderco knives in the REC colorway.

Thank you for understanding!
